Rutgers vs Pittsburgh
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights can clinch a share of their first ever Big East Championship today when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers at 12:00 pm ET. Rutgers is currently ranked 18th in the latest BCS standings. The team is 9-1 overall and 5-0 in the Big East. Pittsburgh enters the matchup 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
Today’s game will be the last between the two teams as members of the Big East Conference. Pittsburgh is heading to the ACC next year while Rutgers will be leaving for the Big Ten potentially in 2014. The teams have been playing each other since 1981. The Scarlet Knights have won five of the last seven meetings.
The Panthers have a very good passing attack as they average 271.8 yards a game which places them 39th in the country. The team is led by senior quarterback Tino Sunseri who has thrown for 2265 yards with 16 touchdowns and only two interceptions. His top play maker is junior wide receiver Devin Street. Street has 59 catches on the season for 806 yards and four scores.
Rutgers will also have to be wary of senior running back Ray Graham. Graham has carried the ball 173 times for 835 yards and eight touchdowns. Grahama’s numbers place him fifth in the Big East with an average of 83.5 yards a game. Graham is the half-brother of Rutgers star linebacker Khaseem Greene. Greene is the leading tackler in the Big East with an average of 10.7 a game.
The Scarlet Knights are expected to get a healthier Jawan Jamison back for this game. Jamison only had four carries in the win last week over Cincinnati due to an ankle injury. Jamison is currently the third leading rusher in the Big East with 990 yards. Rutgers barely missed a beat without him as sophomore Savon Huggins had a career game with 179 yards on 41 attempts.
If Rutgers and Louisville both win today, the Big East Championship will be decided next Thursday, November 29th in Piscataway when Louisville comes to visit.
