Rutgers vs Cincinnati
The 22nd ranked Scarlet Knights (8-1, 4-0 Big East) visit Nippert Stadium on Saturday to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats (7-2, 3-1 Big East) at 12:00 pm ET. Rutgers currently sits at the top of the Big East while Cincinnati is in the third spot. The Bearcats have won their last two games over Syracuse and Temple.
Rutgers is the underdog going into the game as they haven’t won in Cincinnati since 1987. The Bearcats had won five games in a row until Rutgers beat them at home last season by a 20-3 score. If Rutgers hopes to remain undefeated in conference they have to stop the best running team in the Big East. Cincinnati averages 226.8 rushing yards a game which is way ahead of second place Syracuse who average 167.9.
Senior running back George Winn has rushed for 980 yards on 173 carries with nine scores. Sophomore Ralph Abernathy has also rushed for 341 yards on 59 carries with three touchdowns. Rutgers could have issues at running back this week as Jawan Jamison was injured in last week’s game against Army. Jamison only trails Winn in rushing yardage in the Big East. Sophomore Savon Huggins will get the start if Jamison can’t go. Jamison rushed for 208 yards and two scores in the win over Cincinnati last season.
Senior quarterback Brendon Kay is now starting for the Bearcats as he replaces Munchie Legaux. Kay threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start last week in the win over Temple. Legaux was the starter in last year’s loss at Rutgers. He completed only 12 of 31 passes for 158 yards with an interception.
The Scarlet Knights are currently ranked 22nd in the BCS and AP while they come in 20th in the Coaches Poll.
