Rutgers loses to St. Peter's
The Scarlet Knights dropped their opening game in disappointing fashion losing to St. Peter’s 56-52 last night at the RAC. Rutgers was picked to finished 11th in the Big East this season and ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has them as one of the first four teams out of the NCAA tournament. The team looked bad from the beginning especially the guards. Jerome Seagers, Eli Carter and Myles Mack combined for fifteen points on the night and they only made five shots between all of them. Carter shot two of twelve from the field for only five points on the night.
Wally Judge made his Rutgers debut and posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Judge is a 6-foot-9 junior who sat out last season after transferring from Kansas State. Senior Austin Johnson collected 10 points and 5 rebounds off the bench to join Judge in double figures. Fellow senior Dane Miller scored nine points to go along with 12 rebounds.
St. Peter’s was led by sophomore guard Desi Washington who had a game-high 18 points. The Peacocks were picked to finish last in the MAAC Conference this season after winning just five games a year ago. They defeated Rutgers on their home court back in 2007.
Rutgers will be back in action at home on Monday against Sacred Heart. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm ET.
