Rutgers defeats Syracuse
The No. 20 Rutgers Scarlet Knights defeated Syracuse today by a score of 23-15 at High Point Solutions Stadium. This game was a lot closer than it should have been. Rutgers played an extremely conservative game on the offensive end but you also have to credit the Syracuse defense for shutting down the Rutgers running game. This was the last meeting between the teams in the Big East as Syracuse moves to the ACC next year.
The turning point of the game occurred with the first drive of the third quarter. The game was tied at seven when Syracuse lined up to kick a 32-yard field goal. Jamal Merrell came through the line to block the kick and Duron Harmon scooped it up and ran 75 yards for the touchdown putting Rutgers up 14-7.
The player of the game was linebacker Khaseem Greene. The senior had a monster game with 14 tackles, three forced fumbles and an interception. The Scarlet Knight defense forced four turnovers during the game.
Rutgers improves to 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in the Big East. With the win, the team is now bowl eligible. They will be on the road next week in Philadelphia to take on Temple.
