Rutgers defeats Arkansas
The Scarlet Knights had one of the biggest wins in school history last night with a 35-26 victory on the road in Arkansas. Gary Nova introduced himself to the nation outdueling Tyler Wilson. Nova threw for 397 yards and five touchdown passes to lead Rutgers to the win. Rutgers should show up in the Top 25 after the effort.
The biggest surprise of the game was the Rutgers offense. All season long the defense was getting the recognition but last night showed Rutgers can have a dynamic offense. The team had 525 yards of total offense while Arkansas had 492.
There were so many big plays in the second half but there were two in particular that stand out. After Arkansas cut the Rutgers lead to 28-26, Nova hit Mark Harrison on a 60-yard touchdown pass to put Rutgers back up nine. Harrison caught four passes for 87 yards and the touchdown.
The next biggest play was after Rutgers forced Arkansas to punt the ball; they were pinned at their own one-yard line. Jawan Jamison took a handoff and appeared to be hit in the end zone which would have been a safety. Jamison somehow spun away and ripped off a twenty plus yard run to allow Rutgers to eat the rest of the clock.
Jamison went over 100 yards again finishing with 118 yards on 33 carries. He also added a receiving touchdown which was the first Rutgers score of the game. The Rutgers receivers had great nights. Three receivers had over eighty yards and eight different Knights caught a pass.
Rutgers has a bye next week and now will rest up for their next game against Connecticut on October 6th.
