NFL Scouting Combine underway
I didn't create a post yesterday since I participated in the Polar Bear Plunge in Seaside Heights, NJ but now that I'm no longer freezing we can get to sports. As I wake up this morning I'm able to watch the NFL Combine. I don't know when or why I've grown to love this event. You would think watching a bunch of guys running, jumping and lifting would be rather boring.
As I'm watching I just saw RG III run a 4.41 and then a 4.38 40 yard dash. That is some serious speed, even faster than what Cam Newton ran last year. Andrew Luck is going to be running in the afternoon but neither QB prospects are going to throw here.
As a NFL fan I'm a little disappointed that neither are going to show off their arms as they both are going to throw at their Pro Day. Cam Newton threw at the Combine and that didn't hurt his draft status.
As a Jet fan, I'm going to pay particular attention to the defensive players specifically the linebackers and safeties. We need to upgrade in both areas badly. If nothing else, I'd like to see more speed injected into those positions. The Jets game at the Eagles is a great example of how speed wins games.
The best analogy I can make between the teams would be to think of a track team. The Eagles were the track stars. They would be the guys running the dashes or sprints. The Jets on the other hand would be the throwers of the team. This would be the discus, shot putters or javelin throwers. So of course, you put a sprinter against a shot putter, it's pretty obvious who would win the race.
The Jets for the most part have been linked to a few of the Alabama players like Courtney Upshaw, Dont 'a Hightower and Mark Barron. Barron won't be at the combine due to injury though. I would like to see the team draft someone from the SEC. They only have two players on the roster from the SEC, a fullback (John Conner) and the backup QB (Greg McElroy).
So fellow football fans, how much of the Combine will you watch and who would you like your team to draft?
