Why?

Tim Tebow a Jet??
Well they did it. The Jets acquired Tim Tebow from the Broncos for a 4th and 6th round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Jets also received a 7th round pick in return. Since the news came down I’ve been trying to find the positives but it’s been hard to do.

The Jets already have a circus like atmosphere hanging around the team from last season and bringing in Tebowmania is going to add to it. From a football standpoint, the move makes no sense. We basically have a fourth quarterback on the roster when we really need another safety, offensive line help and pass rushers. You’re putting more pressure on Mark Sanchez to work out because once he has a bad game fans are going to be calling for Tebow to play. Everyone knows the media in New York blows everything out of proportion and not we have the biggest story in the NFL coming over.

I hate that the Jets always seem to trade away their draft picks. This team has depth issues everywhere but yet we seem to trade draft picks like they are meaningless. How many plays is Tebow even going to be involved in? Is he going to run the wildcat five or six times a game? I would have traded him for a fifth round pick or higher but to give up two doesn’t make any sense for a guy who is barely going to play.

If you thought Santonio Holmes was miserable last season just wait until Tebow underthrows him by 10 yards. This is just a disaster waiting to happen. It really smells like the Jets did it to get attention in a city where the other team just won the Super Bowl. My only hope is they somehow turn around and trade him to Jacksonville or some other team that really needs a quarterback.

I hope I’m proven wrong but I don’t see any good out of this trade.

No Tebow

Once again the Jets are brought up when a player becomes available. There is absolutely no reason for them to even be interested in Tim Tebow unless he wants to play fullback. Did anyone see this guy play last season? He has great intangibles and leadership; that can’t be denied. He’s just not a professional quarterback.

He’s going to be connected to the Jets because offensive coordinator Tony Sparano was the head coach in Miami when the Dolphins started using the Wildcat offense with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. I don’t see a fit on the Jets; they already have three quarterbacks on the roster with Mark Sanchez, Drew Stanton and Greg McElroy. If he wanted to come and have a specific package for him I might not have a problem with it but we all know he only sees himself as a quarterback.

In his defense he played very well last season for the Broncos and had a great win over Pittsburgh in the playoffs. The issue is he can’t throw the ball very well and the Jets aren’t the physical running team they were a few years back. The move just does not make sense plus what are the Broncos looking to acquire for him? Do we even know the Broncos want to trade him?

I hope this doesn’t drag on too far

Manning Saga Ends

Peyton Manning's new football home.
Peyton Manning has finally chosen his future home and he will become a Denver Bronco. We had heard for quite some time that he preferred the AFC and that appears to be true. There were reports that the 49ers jumped into the Manning race and I thought that would have been a perfect fit. Manning stays in the horse family going from the Colts to the Broncos.

Outside of the 49ers, this is probably the best fit for him. The division isn’t tough and the Broncos have a very good defense. They always have a good running game and they have some decent receivers.

The big question going forward is going to be what the team does with former quarterback Tim Tebow. Do they keep him around and have him learn from Manning or would it make more sense to trade him? If they decide to trade him I would imagine a couple Florida teams would be interested. The Jaguars and Dolphins would seem to be logical places for Tebow to go.

He was a legend at the University of Florida and the Dolphins actually celebrated the championship team at a home game last season. They’ve been having issues selling tickets and we know that Tebow would generate a buzz. They currently have Matt Moore as the starting quarterback.

The Jaguars may need him more. Their current quarterback is Blaine Gabbert and he struggled mightily last season. We have heard reports that the owner of the team would love to have Tebow so that might make sense as well.

I’m betting he ends up going to Jacksonville.

Random Sports Notes

Yesterday was a rather mild day of the NCAA Tournament unlike the day before. All of the higher ranked seeds won their games yesterday. The best game I thought was VCU and Indiana where Indiana won on a jumper with around 10 seconds left. I was pulling for VCU but it looks like Indiana is finally back.

The game I’m expecting most people to be into will be the 15 seed Lehigh taking on 10 seed Xavier after they both pulled off upsets in the first round. If you didn’t see it Lehigh knocked off Duke on Friday night and Xavier sent home Notre Dame. The Lehigh game is on at 7:45 ET tonight

Tebow's Future

There is no doubt that Tim Tebow had one of the greatest college careers of any player. He led the Florida Gators to two BCS National Championship games, and was named first team All-American twice. He took home a Heisman trophy in 2007 and was in the running for another his final two years of school. His list of achievements makes it impossible to debate his greatness at the college level. Even with his proven leadership abilities and winning history, Tebow entered last year's NFL draft surrounded by questions.
