Mets blast Phils
The Mets pummeled the last place Philadelphia Phillies last night by a score of 11-1. Jon Niese earned his sixth win of the year only giving up one run in eight innings. The only run he allowed was a solo homerun by Carlos Ruiz to lead off the second inning.
David Wright and Daniel Murphy each had four RBI’s a-piece to lead the offense. Josh Thole and Ruben Tejada each added three hits as well. The Mets finished with fifteen hits on the night including a game high four hits from Murphy.
Phillies starter Vance Worley went four innings giving up ten hits and six runs for the loss. The Mets scored a run on every pitcher from the Phillies last night. The Mets are now 44-37 on the season while the Phillies fall to 36-46.
The teams play an afternoon game today at 1:00 on the Fourth of July. Cliff Lee is still looking for his first win of the year and he will oppose Chris Young.
