Manny Done Being Manny?

It has just been announced that Manny Ramirez will end his illustrious and always entertaining career. Only a week into the new baseball season, the Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter is calling it quits. It appears that Manny was dealing with the league on an issue regarding MLB's Joint Drug Prevention Treatment Program. I'm certain that more information will be coming out of this situation, but I for one am certainly surprised.

Though he has seen his numbers tail off in recent years, Manny ended last season with a combined .298 batting average playing for the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. It is certain that he did not have the start that he wanted this year.

It appears the other part of this story is going to again shine light on MLB's issue regarding performance enhancing drugs. Again nothing is known yet, but you have to wonder if Manny elected to retire rather than get caught up in another issue with MLB. Back in 2009 as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers Ramirez was suspended 50 games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing drugs.

We will see how this all plays out, I'm sure that there will be more news to come. In an upcoming post I will take a look at Manny's career and how America couldn't seem to get enough of Manny being Manny.

My question is, where does Manny Ramirez stand in Hall of Fame voting in your eyes? I think he just barely misses the cut. He had great numbers with power and everything, but I don't think Manny was a true Hall of Fame player.

I will have to take a look at the numbers but I don't think going out like this and his previous suspension are going to help his cause. He was definitely a game changer in his prime.
