Jeremy Lin
The big news today is in basketball where the Knicks are talking about letting Jeremy Lin leave to join the Houston Rockets. Lin is a restricted free agent who signed an offer sheet with the Rockets where the third year will pay him $14-15 million dollars.
We have heard all along that the Knicks would be willing to match any offer but they recently signed Jason Kidd and traded for Raymond Felton. It doesn’t make much sense to have three point guards on the roster. Lin was great during a 25 game stretch in the season but got hurt late and never played in the postseason.
I’m not a Knicks fan but it doesn’t seem to make much sense in keeping him. Lin is still a great unknown to everyone as he only played half a year last season. He seemed to struggle against better defenses and also he played much better under Mike D’Antoni who was fired. He also didn’t play that well when Carmelo Anthony returned to the lineup.
A positive for the Knicks to keep him would be his ability to make the money back. He is a fan favorite with his underdog story. He also brings in an Asian fan base that is prevalent in New York. He will also do well in Houston who recently saw Yao Ming retire.
The Knicks have until tomorrow night at midnight to decide.
