Hurricane Sandy
It’s been a while since I’ve posted. I lost power to my home on Monday, October 29th and didn’t get it back until this past Monday night due to the Hurricane. It’s been really awful seeing the amount of destruction that has been caused. The fact that I don’t own a smart phone didn’t help as I had no idea what was going on around me.
I’m very grateful that my family only lost power because I have friends that lost everything. I just moved back to Toms River after living in Point Pleasant the last seven years. If we hadn’t moved, we would have lost everything.
The worst part has been seeing the pictures on the internet of the boardwalk in Seaside Heights among others. Like any kid from the Jersey Shore I worked on the boardwalk for many years growing up and have been there many times. The shot of the roller coaster sitting in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean just blows your mind. How about the bumper care that ended up in Bayhead?
Seaside Heights got hit hard just like every other shore town that bordered on Route 35. I’ve been on that road almost every day for the last seven years and you can’t even get on it anymore. The Mantoloking Bridge is totally destroyed along with the houses that bordered around it. When you look at a picture of a bridge and you can’t tell where the ocean started because it has whipped out the bridge; it’s painful. There were pictures of houses crashing into the bridge.
I really wish I could get over there just to see everything live. Or maybe I don’t really want to? It’s going to take years for the Shore to be put back together. Let’s just hope this Nor’Easter doesn’t cause even more unnecessary damage.
