Great Night for the Locals
It was a great night for all my favorite teams which is extremely rare. The Devils won their first playoff game against the Panthers, the Mets beat the Phillies and the Nets somehow defeated the 76ers. Obviously the most important victory was the Devils winning the first game in the best of seven series against Florida by a 3-2 score. The Devils absolutely dominated the first period when they scored 3 goals and put up 26 shots on goal. Patrik Elias, Dainius Zubrus and Ryan Carter all scored in the first. The Devils could have had more goals but Jose Theodore played very well in spite of no support in front of him. Florida got back in the game in the second period with two scores but the Devils held on. The teams next play tomorrow.
The Mets defeated the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park 5-2. The Mets jumped on Cliff Lee with three runs in the first inning. Ruben Tejada led off the game with a double and scored on Daniel Murphy’s double. Later in the inning Jason Bay of all people hit a two run homerun to right center to put the team up 3-0. Scott Hairston also homered off Lee later in the game and Lucas Duda added a sac fly in the ninth inning. R.A. Dickey pitched very well going seven innings and allowing one run. It was the first time all year a Mets starter got an out in the seventh inning. The teams meet up again today at 4:00 pm with Jon Niese pitching against Vance Worley.
The Nets beat the 76ers in Philly by a 95-89 score. It was the 22nd win for the Nets. All this game really did was allow the Knicks to tie Philadelphia for the seventh best record in the East.
