Both Teams go Down
It was a bad day for my local sports teams after a really good start to the weekend. The Devils lost the second game of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals to the Florida Panthers by a score of 4-2. They gave up a goal less than a minute in and were down 3-0 after two periods.
They scored two quick goals at the beginning of the 3rd period to cut the deficit to a goal but were unable to get the equalizer. Jose Theodore made some really nice saves on Zach Parise and Ilya Kovalchuk at the end of the game. The series is now tied at one with the series heading to New Jersey.
The Mets had a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning against the Phillies but some bad defense and ineffective relief pitching did them in as the Phillies scored five runs in the eighth inning. Mike Pelfrey only gave up one run in six innings but the Mets never scored a run after the first inning. Ike Davis hit a two run homer off Cole Hamels but Hamels shut the Mets down the rest of the way. The loss puts the Mets at 6-3 on the season.
