Baseball Hall of Fame
Major League Baseball released their list of 37 players who are eligible to be inducted into the next class of the Baseball Hall of Fame. This is the first steroid class featuring Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa. Mike Piazza is also on the ballot for the first time.
This is going to be a fascinating vote as no one really thinks Clemens and Bonds will get in this time but they should eventually. Clemens and Bonds were Hall-of-Famers before they started taking steroids. There is no chance Sosa makes it in. He embarrassed himself in front of Congress a few years back when he suddenly couldn’t remember the English language.
Piazza is an interesting case as well. He has never been linked to steroids but people seem to think he may have done it as some point. His numbers easily put him in the Hall. He hit 427 homeruns, had 1,335 RBI’s, was a twelve-time All-Star, was the NL Rookie of the Year in 1993 and one of the best hitting catchers of all-time with a career .308 batting average.
Some other notables still on the ballot are Dale Murphy, Don Mattingly, Lee Smith and Jack Morris. You need to get 75% of the vote to get inducted into Cooperstown. You need to get 5% of the vote to stay on the ballot.
