All-Star game
The All-Star game has come and gone and the National League won for the third straight year shutting out the American League by a 8-0 score. The National League scored five runs in the first inning off of Tiger pitcher Justin Verlander. Pablo Sandoval had a three-run triple in the inning and fellow Giant Melky Cabrera added a two-run homer in the fourth.
Melky Cabrera was named the MVP and the National League will now have home-field advantage in the World Series. I basically wanted to watch the introductions to see both R.A. Dickey and David Wright and I happened to miss both.
I did see Dickey pitch the sixth inning. He allowed a leadoff hit to Mike Trout who proceeded to steal second base. It was the first stolen base of the season off Dickey. Dickey struck out Mark Trumbo but then hit Paul Konerko. He was able to get out of the inning by getting a double play from Miguel Cabrera.
David Wright went 0 for 2 in the game. I saw his at-bat against Ryan Cook of the A’s where he struck out looking.
The bigger news today is the fact that the Nets have ended trade talks with Dwight Howard. This soap opera has been going on about a year. It would have been great to acquire him but the Nets still should be a solid team this season. Howard only has himself to blame for not opting out of his contract last year.
